After completing the single player storyline of White Knight Chronicles, I'm still waiting for Dark Cloud 3. Level 5 delivers a nice straight forward role playing game experience with a facet of an MMORPG. They don't do anything groundbreaking here. The combat system is very similar to that of Final Fantasy XII. There is a seemingly awesome feature of being able to create your own avatar. I was totally stoked when I got to do that. Unfortunately, the digital version of you seems like an afterthought of the storyline. You are merely a co-worker of Lenonard, the real main character. Leonard is an effeminate guy with a pony tail who has a small crush on the kingdom's princess, even though his childhood friend Yulie has eyes for him but he is too stupid to notice. It's the same old story that we have heard before. Back to your avatar, he just hangs out in the background during all of the cutscenes and he never gets to control a big knight. Which brings me to the best part of this game...you can transform into a huge ancient knight that is the size of Godzilla and kick some major ass. That is about the most fun and rewarding part of this game. Here is the thing about that, you rarely have to do it. This game is so easy that it really isn't an absolute must to transform unless you are doing a boss battle.
If you are like me, you like to play your games to get trophies. You love to hear that sweet sound resonate through your stereo when you have just unlocked a trophy. White Knight Chronicles has a mere 24 trophies and for some mysterious reason they decided to make them all hidden. I don't understand why any developer does that. Anyway, DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME TO GET TROPHIES. This game is ridiculously hard to get trophies in. After beating the single player game, I had achieved a total of 3 trophies. You'd usually think to have a lot more after playing through a full game. Not still sitting at 4 percent. The trophies will come from forgoing your life and bodily needs to play this game forever and do all the stupid stuff that you didn't want to do in the first place.
Here is my final recommendation. Play this game if you are fan of RPGs and Level 5's games. There will be definitely something for you to enjoy and the storyline is interesting enough. Do not play this game if you are a trophy whore. You will not be getting any easy trophies from this game.
