It seems that DICE is going to continue to keep the Battlefield series as far away from Call of Duty as they can. Thank goodness, I enjoy playing Battlefield online much more than the last few Call of Duty games. People seemed to be more mature and there was a lot more focus on teamwork. Since I play on PS3, I would love to see the voice chat issues that plagued Battlefield 3 be fixed. Gamers want more naval combat, and with this they would like a better naval combat experience. DICE should be able to do this with submarines, planes, and destroyers -- it could get chaotic out on the high seas. But the naval combat could also play an expanded support role from the edge of the ocean into the chaotic land battles.
Some Goozers think Battlefield should go back to a WWII theme. This is something that would set the franchise aside from the next Modern Warfare or Black Ops II. I think for now DICE will keep with the modern theme. Some Goozers thought that the earlier Battlefield games did a better job of promoting teamwork. I don’t necessarily agree. I would like to see bigger squads, say 6-8 man squads and bring back the squad leader. The squad leader was a fun role to play in the previous games. If they are going to bring back the squad leader they might as well bring back Commander mode. This is a rumor, but it was an interesting role. Commanders could turn the tide of combat by dropping in supplies, calling in artillery, and generally helping the entire team.
Personally, I would love to see more vehicles and more destructible environments. In Bad Company 2 I loved blowing up buildings around my enemies and smashing tanks through walls. This always kept the gameplay interesting and different from Call of Duty. There are some things that need to stay put in the Battlefield series, like the diversity and scale of maps, every game in the series has always had diverse maps. I enjoy the class abilities and options to customize my loadouts. I wish spawn times were faster. I wish there was an easier way to party up with your friends. Most of these options are some of the reasons why this game is alot different than the Call of Duty series.
Should DICE do away with the single player game? I don’t think I even touched the single player game in Bad Company 2 or Battlefield 3? Do the hardcore fans really care about the single player? Should this be a separate release? I think it would be interesting to make the single player campaign a co-op experience. This would make it stand out from other FPS games and give other options to fans of the series. I’d also love to see a $60 edition of the game that includes the DLC so I don’t have to pay for it later. Who knows what the next game will bring, gamers will just have to wait. But as of right now, I know I am not the only one who has the game pre-ordered through Amazon.
