I have only played few hours of the game but so far I am hooked. The last superhero fighting games I played a great deal of was was either Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe or Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Both of those were fun games but they didn't have a lot of bang for your buck. Gamers have been waiting for another DC fighting game and they know DC has released nearly as many fighting games as Marvel. Injustice seems to fill the demand nicely and it looks like it will carve a niche in the fighting game genre.
One of the biggest reasons the game is so much fun so far is that I can see where the latest Mortal Kombat has influenced the game. There is a lengthy story involving everyone’s favorite heroes and villains. Like Mortal Kombat, gamers will play as different characters through different parts of the game including some sort of duplicate/cross universe craziness. The story is a good introduction to the characters and their fighting styles. One of my favorite parts in Mortal Kombat was the challenge tower and Injustice has Stars Labs, which provides the same sort of additional content gamers hunger for and it provides the chance to keep playing as the heroes and villains in all sorts of different scenarios.
But the meat of the game comes from the character options. Gamers can pit Superman vs. Bane, Superman vs. Batman, Flash vs. Green Lantern, Joker vs. Ares, Luthor vs. Catwoman, and so on. This goes to show that NetherRealm has done an excellent job with the roster. There are lots of fan favorites and a few oddballs in the roster. Any combination of heroes and villains will make any fan come back for more. There is also a lot of fan service in the game, including bonus costumes, and in the background of most of the levels there are lots of references to DC comics.
I’m hoping to check out the multiplayer and the battle mode, which appears to pit heroes and villains against each other in some sort of challenge mode. The story looks great and I’m wondering how long it will take me to get through it. What happens when I finish the game?
So far I have enjoyed playing as several of the characters and beating up Superman. I think it would have been neat to see a few more characters in the initial roster. The good news is there is a playing style for everyone. I cannot get enough of Injustice. I think for fans of fighting games who might be looking for something a little different this could be the ticket. And of course for DC fans this is a must buy. If you finish the game there are plenty of people on Goozex who would gladly take it off gamers' hands.
