Think of the Faction Pack as bite sized snippets around 3-4 hours total. Gamers will play as a member of the Reich Heavy, a Red Line Sniper, and a Polis Ranger. Each of the experiences are different. As the Reich Heavy, gamers will step into the shoes of a Heavy Gunner who must fend off waves of enemies with heavy weapons. For me, this was the toughest piece. I died a lot and it’s really short.
The second best part of the DLC pack is the Red Line Sniper mission. This bit forces gamers to sneak through an enemy encampment full of buildings and tunnels. Stealth is forced but the game is semi forgiving and you will be packing silenced weapons. There are some decent vantage points that you can make use of and if anything you’ll need to stay hidden and quiet. I would say the second pack is around 30 minutes in length or a little longer. Some of the enemies can be avoided.
The third part of the DLC is the Polis Ranger Mission. This is the the longest piece and the most interesting. Gamers are thrust into the shoes of a rookie Ranger who needs to venture into the Great Library and retrieve artifacts. What makes this bit of DLC unique is that it plays very different. For the most part you are on your own. Gamers will venture out of the base through the sewers to above ground. There are shortcuts back to base to find and a long checklist of items to find. In some ways I felt like I was playing Fallout 3.
You can only carry 5 artifacts at a time and some of the artifacts you’ll find are interesting. You can also take the time to screw in light bulbs and light torches, which I would presume lights the way for others. Once you return to base you can buy more filters, upgrade your weapons, buy ammo, and save the game. Do you sell your pistol and get a shotgun? Can you afford to?
Each trip to the surface is going to be tougher than the last as enemies are randomized. You’ll have limited filters and space in your inventory. The Library and surrounding area has some enemies and traps. Due to being alone I felt very lost and the environment feels tense. Warning if you run into a Librarian it might be best to lay down heavy fire with grenades and a powerful weapon. Or you can try to sneak by them.
Out of the three pieces of DLC this one took me a few hours and was the most interesting. I enjoyed all three pieces and I hope the next part of DLC is just as interesting. The DLC is $5 on Amazon and the Season Pass is $15. I would recommend picking up Last Light if you haven’t already. Amazon has Metro Last Light for $50 but I've seen it for $30. If the game drops in price to below $20 why not pick up a copy for yourself and to trade to Goozex?
