PC Charlotte Peters had a sexual relationship with a “vulnerable” female rape. She has been sentenced to 22 months in prison and thrown off the force

A policewoman became involved with the victim when she was working for the Metropolitan Police’s sexual offences and child abuse unit in London.

Details of the relationship:

The pair first kissed as Peters took the woman’s fingerprints. They went on to sleep together several times in different locations, including a McDonald’s toilet and the victim’s grandfather’s home.

After her arrest in March, Peters admitted to gross misconduct in a public office at the hearing.

According to prosecutor Kate Bex, the affair was discovered when the victim told staff at the refuge she was tired of being her dirty little secret, which led Peters to threaten to kill herself. Staff told her they were obliged to report it, and the fallout from that disclosure was inevitable.

The victim then withdrew what she had said to the staff member she stated that it had been lies meant to seek attention.

The victim later told the police that she was in love with Peters. She knew she would get in trouble, but she didn’t think there was anything wrong with it.

The relationship was a gross breach of professional responsibility Judge Anthony Leonard QC told Peters.

Detective Chief Superintendent Ivan Balhatchet, Peters’ commanding officer said that she was a popular member of her team who would have had a promising career ahead of her.

Peters’ conviction seriously undermines public confidence in the police, according to Assistant Commissioner Martin Hewitt. He added: “Having considered the matter fully and having regard to the nature and severity of the breaches of the standards of professional behavior, my decision is that PC Peters is dismissed without notice.”

At Southward Crown Court, Peters mouthed “I love you” at her partner after being sentenced
