Actress Sarah Jessica Parker opens her first stand-alone boutique, SJP, in Washington DC’s new retail center, MGM National Harbor. The average price of shoes in her store is around $350 a pair.
“Opening a standalone store has long been a dream we have been working towards and we feel truly privileged to be doing so with the expertise, guidance and support of our brilliant partners at MGM Resorts,” Parker said in a press release.
“It’s been very exciting to have been involved in all steps of the process, from on-site construction visits to the actual layout and design of our boutique. I’m honored to be included in this massive undertaking and I’m very much looking forward to celebrating in December. Because perhaps then I will believe it’s real.”
SJP officially opened for the public on Friday December 9th. Parker first launched her brand in 2014 with her partner George Malkemus III, the CEO of Manolo Blahnik.
The star has also been symbolic to the city of New York City, and so DC is new territory to open her first standalone store. However, she claims the reason for the location was pretty simple: “MGM asked, it was kind of that simple.”
Parker made it a point to find prices lower than most high-end designers. However, the shoes are still not cheap, with the average price to be $350 a pair. Parker said: “We’re not cavalier about that. On the other hand, I can’t make a cheap shoe that is going to break, not feel comfortable, slip and slide all over the pavement, and feel good about it.”
“We’re monogamous to the single sole,” she told WCNC. “We don’t mess around, we don’t flirt, we don’t have affairs, there are no extra-curricular relationships with platforms.”
