The full title of Star Wars’ Episode 8 has been announced will be Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
After much anticipation, it has finally been revealed that Rian Johnson’s Episode 8 will be Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
About the Film
The upcoming film is directed by Rian Johnson, and is a sequel to JJ Abrama’s “The Force Awakens” from 2015.
It will continue with the story of Rey, the runaway storm trooper, Finn, and the resistance pilot, Poe Dameron.
The cast includes, Daisy Ridley as Rey, Mark Hamil as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa.
It will also include other stars such as Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson and more.
Who is the Last Jedi?
Many Star Wars fans speculate The Last Jedi refers to Luke Skywalker himself. In the last film, Luke was training a new generation of “mystical warriors.” One of these mystical warriors was his nephew, Ben, played by Adam Driver.
It is speculated that Ben “turned to the dark side,” changing his name to Kylo Ren. If this is the case, this would make Luke “The Last Jedi.” Some have also argued that the word “Jedi” is plural, and so The Last Jedi could be both Luke and a redeemed Rey.
At least two Star Wars Extended novels had similar titled. However, fans think it’s unlikely that the storyline will be borrowed from any of these books. One fan wrote: “Star Wars: The Last Jedi, not to be confused with Star Wars: The Last Jedi book (2013) and Jude Watson’s The Last of the Jedi series (2005).”
Scott Weinberg took to twitter to announce the title:
“Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, Episode IX: We Found Another Jedi.”
