Troubled rapper Kanye West has met with President-elect Donald Trump, securing an embrace from the next president of the United States.
Kanye, who is recently out of hospital following a mental breakdown, has a quarter of an hour meeting with the new president, going upstairs to Trump Tower for a chat that Mr Trump said was “about life”.
Mr Trump then escorted Kanye to the lobby of the plush building to say farewell to the rapper. So far, only interim UKIP leader and close Trump ally Nigel Farage has managed to secure a meeting at Trump Tower. None of those who he spoke to about taking high-level posts were afforded an appointment at Trump Tower.
Mr Trump said: “We’re just friends, just friends. He’s a good man. Going well. Long time – We’ve been friends for a long time. Life, we discussed life.”
Meanwhile, Kanye, who is now being treated as an outpatient following hospitalisation after a nervous breakdown said he would have his picture taken, but would not respond to any questions about whether he would run for president in 2020.
Mr Trump’s daughter Ivanka, who has been a close advisor to her father during his victorious presidential campaign, was also present at the meeting, while Kanye brough along his mother-in-law’s boyfriend.
It is understood that Kanye, who is believed to be estranged from his wife Kim Kardashian according to reports, had been the one to instigate the meeting. It could be that Mr Trump is looking at Kanye to perform at his inauguration ceremony in January.
At a concert in California, Kanye seemed to indicate that he did not vote, but he added: “If I would’ve voted, I would’ve voted Trump.” He also described Mr Trump as a “genius”. He also urged people to stop focusing on racism, saying that the whole world was racist and it was just a fact of life.
