A 26-year-old mother dies in an elevator due to malfunction


Rocio Cortes Nunez, a mother who had just put to bed her third daughter passed away in an elevator, where she was trapped and cut into half. The ugly incident happened at a Spanish hospital on Sunday when her stretcher was trapped between floors in a lifter.

According to news.com.au, the incident happened at Our Lady of Valme Hospital in Seville. The 26-year-old mother was being moved in a stretcher from the second floor to the third floor of the hospital when the accident happened.

Family speaks

Rocio Cortez had given birth through a Caesarean section. Speaking of the incident, Jose Gaspar, Nunez’s husband told ABC Sevilla that he’s a wreck and it cannot continue. He pointed out that it could be any other person tomorrow.

Nunez’s brother-in-law, David Gaspar informed Europa Press that the family is in a state of devastation. The mother of the deceased said she only got to know about her daughter’s death when she met a staff after she heard about an accident in the Hospital.

The mother explained that she approached the information desk and was told that a lady died, and they confirmed that it was her daughter who died.

The Sun reported that Nunez had already delivered her baby girl, Triana via CS and was headed for the maternity ward when the ugly incident happened.

The stretcher which Nunez laid was pushed on to the lifter which moved up just before the stretcher was fully placed in it, trapping Nunez whose head was said to be trapped between the elevator frame and the roof. Local reports have it that Firefighters spent about two hours before getting to Nunez’s body.

The Telegraph reported that Nunez left two daughters aside Triana – Rocio, 4 and Carmen, 5.
