Former Real Madrid striker, Jese Rodriquez started his EPL career on a great note as he helped Stoke win their first game of the season against Arsenal.
Jese from given a straight start just 4 days after joining the team from France and he repaid the coach’s faith in me with a solitary goal after a nice assist from Saido Berahino in the second of the game.
Arsenal was hard done by the referee who cancelled a goal from Alexandre Lacazette for offside even though replays showed that he well on the side.
Arsenal continued to push for an equaliser but Stoke with just 23% of the possession was able to hold on and earn all three points.
Stoke have always been a thorn in the flesh of Arsenal all through the years and they proved that once again with their physical display.
Not Strong Enough
The Gunners won their first game against Stoke last season after 7 unsuccessful attempts and Wenger had stated during the pre-game conference that his team can cope with the physical challenge of Stoke City.
However, the team could not match his words with action in spite of the fact that dominated possession.
The team couldn’t break down Stoke’s defence with both Ozil and Xhaka being the culprits in the game as they could not exert their presence in the game and also didn’t do enough to get the ball back before it led to the only goal of the game.
“We are quite aware of the mistakes that we made which could have been avoided and we were punished for this” Wenger said after the game.
