Barcelona Appoints New Manager

It is expected that Barcelona will name Ernesto Valverde as their new coach today after the resignation of former boss Luis Enrique who decided against renewing his 3-year contract with the club.

Ernest Valverde, who played for Barcelona, announced just last week that he would be leaving his post as the manager of Athletico Madrid after spending four years at the club and it has now been revealed that he made this decision. After Barcelona approached him about 3 months ago.

Luis Enrique signed off on his time in Barcelona with a 3-1 win over Alaves in Copa Del Rey final, which gave Barcelona their only silverware this season

Ernest Valverde played for Barcelona between 1988-1990 and scored 8 goals in 22 appearances for the club. He will be presented to the media after the club’s board meeting by the club’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The Spanish had a fairly successful season at Athletic Bilbao as they finished in the 7th place in La Liga, which gives them a play-off spot for the Europa League.

It is expected that the new coach would help in convincing Lionel Messi to stay at the club as there have been reports that he is unsettled and doesn’t feel appreciated enough. This is largely due to the fact that he feels he is being undervalued at the club.

Ter Stegen Signs Barca Contract

On the other hand, Barcelona goalkeeper, Ter Stegen, has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club till 2020. The German goalkeeper has enjoyed a relatively successful stay at the club and was rewarded with a contract extension.

Ney Dilemma

The new coach will also have to deal with issues surrounding Neymar, who could lead Spain this season following a prolonged court case involving him and his representatives.
