Delta Airlines threatened Californian parents to take away their children if the family doesn’t give up their kid’s seat.
Along with two of their three kids, the couple was on a Delta Airlines flight taking off on April 23. Flying from Hawaii Brian and Brittany Schear were heading to Los Angeles on.
Delta Airlines staff asked the family to leave their seats but the family didn’t agree.
The conversation between Brian and one of the staff went as follows:
“Well, they can just remove me from the plane,” Brian said.
“In that case you and your wife will be in jail, and your kids will be taken away from you,” an official answered.
The Schear couple were initially traveling with all three of their kids but their 18-year-old son Mason decided to travel on another plane, leaving his own seat to his two-year-old brother.
However, when the family was seated with their two children beside them, Delta’s staff informed them that they couldn’t fly.
Even though Brian argued that he paid for the ticket for his son Mason and one of the kids is sitting instead of him, Delta insisted that this wasn’t allowed.
Delta explained to Brian that “the named person must be in that seat.” Therefore the airline cannot allow a two-year old kid to sit instead of Mason’s seat.
End of Situation
After a discussion between Brian and the Staff, the family was eventually escorted out of the plane.
“We did not receive a refund and had to purchase all new tickets the next day. It was the middle of the night, we had no hotel to go to or a car,” Brittany complained.
Delta’s spokesperson stated: “We are sorry for the unfortunate experience our customers had with Delta, and we’ve reached out to them to refund their travel and provide additional compensation.” “That did not happen in this case and we apologise.”
