Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed the mostly discredited “dirty dossier” that alleged links between Russia and soon to be U.S president Donald Trump.
Giving a speech in Moscow, Putin joked that Russian sex workers were the best in the world but shrugged off that Trump would have spent time with them.
This is the first time Putin has spoken on the dossier since it was leaked to the press last week. He said the claim that Trump was a Russian intelligence asset was nonsense.
He said, “I’ve never met him. I don’t know what he’ll do on the world stage. So I have no reason either to criticise him, or to defend him.”
He went on to dismiss the claim that Trump was compromised in a 2013 trip to Moscow as an obvious fake.
He said, “This is an adult, and a man who for years organised beauty contests and spoke with the most beautiful women in the world. I can hardly believe that he ran off to meet with our girls of low social morals. Although of course ours are the best in the world.”
“The people who order these fakes which are being spread against the president-elect of America and use them in the political battle are worse than prostitutes. They have no moral limits.
“When Trump came to Moscow he was not a political figure, he was just a businessmen, one of the rich people of America. Do they think our special services follow every American billionaire?”
The dossier is said to contain errors and contradictions and has largely been rubbished.
Trump has expressed admiration for Trump and indeed Trump has spoken of building ties with Russia. Stating that sanctions against the country could be lifted if Russia helped to fight terrorism and reduce nuclear weapon stockpiles.
